About Me

Hello! My name is Sam. I’m an award-winning newspaper designer with ten years of experience between two companies, Gannett and Advance Local. I was originally hired by Gatehouse Media in 2014, which then merged with Gannett in 2019, and I left the company in 2022. During my time there I worked on newspapers across the country, and was known for by ability to produce quality pages with a quick turnaround time. My managers often turned to me when deadline was close to make sure pages still made it out on time. I was promoted to assistant team leader in 2016. In that position I was responsible for connecting with editors to ensure pages were done to their liking, I helped train new employees, and I worked with existing employees to help improve their design skills. After leaving Gannett, I took a job with Advance Local in 2023, where I continued to refine my page design skills. I left in 2025.

In my free time, I enjoy writing original stories and learning how to design with different tools. I’m proficient in Photoshop, different kinds of video editing software, and website design. I am also working on learning HTML and CSS, as well as how to use wire-framing websites like Figma and Balsamiq.
